ALASKA -- There are now two active volcanoes in Alaska's Aleutians Islands. The Alaska Volcano Observatory reports Cleveland Volcano erupted Monday, sending ash up to 17,000 feet in the air. Geophysicist Rick Wessels says pilots are reporting surface ash extending up to 50 miles southeast of the volcano.

Quito, Ecuador - Scientists at Ecuador's Geophysics Institute say the Tungurahua volcano is spewing ash on nearby highland communities. Patricio Ramon told Radio Quito on Monday that the volcano in Ecuador's central Andes is "unstable" and explosions, emissions of ash and booming noises are becoming more frequent.
