Belgrade Zoo Animals Provide Early Bombing Warning...05/30/99
Reuters) BELGRADE — The noise starts around half an hour before the bombs fall
as the animals in Belgrade zoo pick up the sound of approaching planes and missiles,
director Vuk Bojovic said. "It's one of the strangest and most disturbing concerts
you can hear anywhere,'' he said in an interview.
"It builds up in intensity as the planes approach — only they can hear them, we can't — and when the bombs start falling it's like a choir of the insane. Peacocks screaming, wolves howling, dogs barking, chimpanzees rattling their cages.''
"I have made a record every hour of each day of when the animals start acting up. One day, when this craziness is over, I'd like to check it with reliable data on when the planes were flying.''
"Someone could make a scientific study out of it.''
Bojovic said the zoo had been hard hit by NATO's air strikes campaign aimed at forcing Belgrade to accept an autonomy deal for Kosovo, particularly when the alliance attacked Belgrade's power system, and indirectly the water supply.
"I had 1,000 eggs of rare and endangered species incubating, some of them ready to hatch in a couple of days. They were all ruined. That's 1,000 lives lost.''
Meat in the zoo's freezer defrosted and went off, making it suitable only to scavengers like hyenas and vultures. Belgrade people donated meat out of their home freezers when the power went down, "but most of it wasn't even fit for animals.''
The lack of water meant that some animals, particularly the hippos, were literally swimming in their excrement, he said.
"We had to give dirty drinking water to a lot of pretty delicate animals. We won't know the effects of that for two or three months,'' Bojovic said. While the zoo overlooks the confluence of two major rivers, the Danube and the Sava, both are heavily polluted by chemical and industrial waste.
The nightly air strikes, with their accompaniment of heavy anti-aircraft fire lighting up the sky, has had other, possibly longer-lasting effects on many of the animals, the director said.
Many of them aborted their young in the latter stages of pregnancy. Many birds abandoned their nests, leaving eggs to grow cold. "If they ever lay again, I just wonder what they will do with them,'' he said.
Even a snake aborted some 40 fetuses, apparently reacting to the heavy vibration shaking the ground as missiles hit targets nearby.
The worst night the zoo can remember was when NATO hit an army headquarters only 600 meters (yards) away, with a huge detonation.
"The next day we found that some of the animals had killed their young,'' the director said. "A female tiger killed two of her four three-day-old cubs, and the other two were so badly injured we couldn't save them.''
"She had been a terrific mother until then, raising several litters without any problems. I can't say whether it was the detonation or the awful smell that accompanied the bombing. I personally think it was the detonation,'' he added.
On the same night, an eagle owl killed all of its five young, and ate the smallest of them. "It wasn't because she was hungry. I can only think it was fear.''

The most disturbing case was of the huge Bengal tiger, who began to chew his own paws. "He was practically raised in my office. He trusted humans.''
Looking up into the sky, Bojovic said the constant stream of NATO war-planes, with their trails of polluting gases, threatened to disturb the migration of several species of birds that pass over the area every year. Some were heading north just as NATO's bombardment began.
"They have always used these corridors. I wonder whether they will ever do so again. I think fauna right across Europe and beyond will feel the affects of this war for a long time to come.''
The grimmest spinoff of the war, now in its third month, is the sight of armed guards patrolling the zoo.
"They're not there to keep people from harming or stealing the animals,'' Bojovic said. "Their job is to shoot the animals if the zoo gets bombed and some of them try and break out.''

Hey here is a novel idea yet it might seem cold. Maybe Terrance McKenna is sending
a message that psychedelics and mushrooms just might not be the way to enlightenment?????
I foresaw this event. Another interesting possibility; this is concerning Art
Bell. When you have a talk show centered on exposing others and the truth it
is wise to not have any skeletons in ones own closet and live a life of impeccable
integrity. It seems everyone is polarized, pointing fingers at each other and
waring. Could this be another plan being carried out. Divide and conquer by
the N.W.O.?????????
If the key people who are exposing the atrocities carried out by our government and other institutions of ill intent keep fighting among themselves there is not unified effort to bring forward the truth and heal. The ego is the only aspect of self that needs defending and revenge and these ego wars are distracting us from our real work which is of much more importance. While I do not condemn or condone all this behavior or side with anyone throughout all these dramas I am concerned about the distraction from the real work. Lets all just forgive and forget, apologize and move forward in the real work. The only ones who will come out on top are the lawyers and the time and energy can best be used to fry bigger fish. Again the only thing that needs defending and revenge is the ego and it seems the divide and conquer agenda is in full effect and again only the listeners will suffer. Be well and pass this on. It appears we have been sucker punched by Art Bell again. Art had been building up all week a dramatic escalation of how he was going to disclose "almost all" regarding his walking off the set for two weeks in October of last year, as well as current issues. He also implied, he would tell us of the personal problems concerning his family that are ongoing.
Well folks, what we got was a four hour lecture by Bell and his attorney, Gerald P. Cox, in the tone of a six year old complaining to his mommy, of how Art's feelings have been hurt (whaa), by all the mean people out there (whaaa), calling me names and I want them to stop. Mommy, tell them to stop, it hurts (whaa, whaa, whaa). Mr. Bell once again said nothing of the reasons he had us all tune in last night to understand his personal problems that started over a year ago concerning his family (son).
I have been flooded with emails, telling of how manipulated people are feeling with Art's immature ranting, and being pulled in to a personal vendetta.
Then there is the cry of decency on the internet. "You are not allowed to yell FIRE in a theater. Well, well Mr. Bell, what do you call, "there appears to be a space ship "companion" following the comet Hale-Bopp". Some weeks later, 39 people dead, perhaps influenced by the fury whipped up on the Art Bell show. How about the times Art Bell tells us "folks, send your children out of the room. What you are about to hear may be too much for them. I am giving you this warning". And my favorite, "those of you who challenge or disagree with Richard Hoagland CAUSED HIS HEART ATTACK"
Let's not forget Mr. Ed Dames the remote viewer. Ed on countless occasions with Art's full support and encouragement, proclaims of endless ways we are all going to die NOW!. Run it is right behind you. Move and Move quick. Thing is, Dames has a worse hit rate than the Seattle Mariners. But none the less...Is This Yelling FIRE! I can't wait until this case is heard in court. Can you envision all the people who had actually taken action due to Dames insistence of urgency, coming forward with the hundreds and thousands of dollars they spent based on the call to FIRE!
I encourage you to read the lawsuit itself. It has been rumored, Art (and his attorney) will be laughed right out of court. When you break it down, what it appears to say is (in the tone of a six year old), "people are yelling at me, it hurts my feelings, make them stop" whaa, whaa, whaa.
The most alarming portion of last nights lecture, was Art and company, putting people on alert that they may be one of the five or six names of a growing list, who will be named in the lawsuit for being challenging to Art. It also appears Art Bell has declared himself as the self assigned "policing authority", putting us all on alert. (this will be fun). I wonder if he wakes up today realizing he just put himself under arrest.
Am I to be put on alert. Is Matt Drudge on alert for thinking Art was going to tell the truth, but then quickly had to pull the story because he had been duped. Is Jeff Rense, Sean David Morton, Joe Firmage, Curtis and anyone else who challenges Art Bell for his false, ridicules, and perhaps insulting reporting of what he wants to call facts and science.
One of the more recent examples of this implied factual science for us to be taking as fact, is the Jonathan Reed story. Art Bell gave an unprecedented amount of time to Jonathan Reed, a Seattle resident. Reed proclaimed he had killed an alien after the alien ate his dog. (stop laughing, it's true). Art insisted the photographs Reed had sent in were authentic. When Art would receive calls challenging this embarrassingly ridiculous projection of truth, Art would scold the caller. Telling them there is nothing he has seen to debunk this story. Art would hold the photo's up to his still cam, and say "folks, they appear to be real, I have the originals right here in my hand."
Now to be serious for a moment. The truth of Art's departure from the show back in October is indeed a sad one. As Art has finally corrected to truth, it has nothing to do with Art Bell himself, it is his son. I am writing the story now and will post this weekend. As most of you know, I have known the truth from the beginning. But with respect for Art's son, I am holding the story.

Last night Art Bell stated he would disclose "almost all" regarding his disappearance last October, as well as why he or others, have had him reduce to three nights per week.
I have personally been aware of the reason for his walking off the set for two weeks back in October of 1998. I had been told at the time of the incident, in a very loving and caring way, by a person close to Art who was at his home in the very beginning of this event. I had promised Art I would not disclose the event unless I heard from him first. I can tell you it has nothing to do with Art Bell himself, it is about his son. When Art tells you the "almost all" truth tonight, you will have a great deal of empathy for him as a father. At the same time, you may be quite agitated, irritated and dismayed for the way he handled it. Perhaps you will feel as though you have been manipulated with sensationalism. As Larry King said on his show during Art's interview (who also knows the truth) "Why did you handle it in that way, couldn't you have just said...Folks I have some personal problems I need to take care of ...and leave it at that".
I am writing this article in hopes we are not being put through the same senseless build up and sensationalism that occurred back in October. As Art Bell said last night "People with integrity have no reason to hold back". Well, I certainly agree.
In addition, it is rumored that Art is being sued for over two hundred million dollars for his negligence concerning the 39 deaths referred to as "Heavens Gate". This event related to the "companion" (meaning space ship) and the Hale-Bopp comet mass suicide. It is also alleged, he is being sued for racketeering.
There are many who say it is time Art Bell and Jacor declare his show as science news, or just pure entertainment. This same type of lawsuit occurred some years ago regarding Professional Wrestling (how appropriate).

(MSNBC) Foremost forecaster sees 14 Atlantic storms over six months. The world’s foremost hurricane forecaster has never predicted more than 11 major Atlantic storms in one season — until this year. And he isn’t alone: The head of the U.S. National Hurricane Center has voiced a similar concern about more storms than usual ahead of the six-month season that starts June 1.
WILLIAM GRAY, a Colorado State University professor noted for his accuracy in forecasting hurricane frequency, predicts 14 storms strong enough to be named — five tropical storms and nine hurricanes, four of them major hurricanes with winds of at least 111 mph.
Jerry Jarrell, director of the U.S. National Hurricane Center, voiced a similar concern. “People have been saying for several years we may be heading back to a period like the ’40s and ’50s when we really had heavy hurricane seasons — a lot of major hurricanes,” he said. “I think it’s no longer speculation. I think we are in it now.”

Dr. Michael McKubre, an electrochemist at Menlo Park, California-based SRI,
was generating unaccounted-for heat in a carefully-controlled cold fusion
experiment. McKubre presented his findings at the centennial meeting of the
American Physical Society, the nation's premier gathering of physicists.
Close to 100 scientists attended McKubre's talk, a sizable audience for a
technical session. Despite the crowd, and the importance of the subject, no
major news stories have been published about the event. According to
McKubre, there was only one journalist present.
In his talk, McKubre detailed the results of SRI's nearly 10-year effort to
replicate the work of Utah chemists Stanley Pons and Martin Fleischmann.
McKubre confirmed that, under the right, difficult-to-achieve conditions,
sustained reactions are taking place in SRI's cold fusion cells. McKubre
says the reaction appears to be nuclear in origin.
In addition to carefully measuring the excess heat being produced, McKubre
has also detected elevated quantities of Helium-4, a known fusion
by-product. McKubre's findings turn what is currently known about nuclear science
on its
head.
But that is only half the story.
Since writing my first report on McKubre's work two months ago, I've become
convinced that the federal Department of Energy is responsible for a massive
failure to serve the public interest. Rather than budget the funds needed to
explore this new, emerging science, our top national energy science
officials have adopted what might be called, at best, a policy of benign neglect.
At
worst, it's a policy of fraud and deceit.
How could this be happening?
The stakes in the debate about cold fusion are enormous. In this case, an
unholy alliance seems to have come together. The principle players are the
fossil fuel industry, which has no interest in seeing itself eclipsed by a
new, non-polluting source of energy, and the mainstream physics community,
which wants to protect, seemingly at all costs, the federal funding it
relies on to continue its massively expensive hot fusion experiments.
I've seen how squirrelly even good people can get when a few of their bucks
are in jeopardy. So it's not surprising that when several trillion dollars
are on the table, there are signs of skullduggery.
Take, for starters, the Energy Resources Advisory Board (ERAB) panel
appointed during the Bush administration to look into the cold fusion claims
made by Pons and Fleischmann. That panel leaned heavily on an experiment
done at MIT that found the field unworthy of financial support. Since then,
however, Dr. Eugene Mallove, the chief science writer at MIT at the time,
has come forward to denounce the MIT study, citing irregularities in the way
MIT's results were presented.
Mallove contends MIT's researchers did generate excess heat in their cold
fusion experiment, and then fudged that finding in their final report. As
evidence, Mallove has produced a copy of the original heat-measurement graph
used in the MIT experiment, which showed slight heat production above the
expected level. That graph did not appear in the final MIT report. In its
place, the MIT team published an "adjusted" graph that showed no production
of excess heat.
(CNN) The Indian air force says its jets have launched airstrikes Wednesday in the disputed mountains of Kashmir,where the army has been exchanging mortar and heavy artillery fire with Pakistani forces. The air force says the strikes were needed to clear out infiltrators backed by Pakistani planes, which have come inside Indian territory. Pakistan denies the charges. A Pakistani spokesperson said that "any threat to Pakistani security will be met by a matching response."
CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (AP) - In what may be the worst drought in Mexico's history, reservoirs and rivers are drying up, crops are wilting and cattle are dying by the thousands. Along the Texas border, some farmers have even resorted to watering their crops with raw sewage to keep them alive. "What else can we do? Sometimes we have to accept the little that God gives us," said Fidel Ramirez, 69, who has begun pumping sewage into his two-acre plot of cotton in the Ejido San Isidio farm cooperative, just south of El Paso, Texas. The Chihuahua state cooperative contains a total of 15 acres, half of them planted with wheat that has begun to wilt. If Ramirez's young cotton plants don't receive rain soon, they too will die.
POSOLTEGA, Nicaragua (AP) - When the rains started falling again this month, horror returned to Posoltega. Skies turned dark, streams swelled and the earth began to cough up bones. Maria del Carmen Solano, 54, survived the Oct. 30 mudslide caused by the monstrous Hurricane Mitch that killed at least 2,000 people on the slopes of the Casitas volcano here. But nothing prepared her for the grisly find she made in her back yard after a night of heavy rain in early May. With the rains, and the start of hurricane season June 1, Central Americans are reliving the terrors of last year's storm, which killed as many as 10,000 people in Honduras and Nicaragua, two of the hemisphere's poorest countries.
KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) - Villagers and troops recovered at least 400 bodies - some suspended in trees or buried in mud - and rescued thousands of survivors after a cyclone tore through hundreds of villages in southern Pakistan, officials said Sunday. Rescue workers retrieved the bodies as flood waters receded, leaving devastated villages and thousands of stranded people. Hundreds were missing and feared drowned, with little hope that their bodies would be found soon, officials said. They said many bodies had probably been swept out to sea. A cyclone with winds of 170 mph smashed into the Arabian Sea coast Thursday, causing floods that submerged thousands of villages in the coastal Thatta and Badin districts of Sind province. The two districts are located 30 miles and 75 miles, respectively from the port city Karachi. Soldiers used boats and helicopters to rescue thousands of survivors, but many remained stranded in remote villages. Many survivors were suffering from exposure a! nd there were fears of an outbreak of disease as the water receded, authorities said. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced $1 million in financing for relief efforts, but Haider said at least $6 million was needed. Villagers said they received no prior warning of the cyclone.

It gets pretty lonely hanging out there with very little support regarding my research on how the Magnetic Field (Shift), is the cause of our record breaking weather phenomenon. I have great expectations the weather will continue to increase in size, causing potential catastrophic disaster.

Thousands of years ago, humans first noted evidence of Earth's magnetic force when iron ore rocks seemed to move of their own accord. In this century, man discovered that Earth's magnetic field protects life by warding off damaging cosmic rays and solar radiation.
But a deeper understanding of the origin of Earth's magnetic field - a conundrum that Albert Einstein classified as one of the great unsolved problems of physics - has persistently eluded scientists. Today, with the help of supercomputers and an 800,000-year historical record of Earth's magnetic field released this week, researchers are closer than ever to unraveling the mystery.
With this data might come clues to climate variations, extinction patterns, fluctuations in the strength of the magnetosphere, and other events that could link the activity in Earth's core with conditions on the surface and in the atmosphere.
"We are getting computer simulations that create magnetic fields that are fairly similar to that of the Earth," says Gary Glatzmaier, a professor of earth sciences at the University of California at Santa Cruz. "It has taken many years to come up with a numerical method to solve the equations that describe the magnetism, but we are close."
Tracing Earth's past
Earth's magnetic field can be traced back at least 3 billion years. Its source is Earth's iron-rich superheated core - a moon-size solid inner core and a fluid outer core. Yet several things about the magnetic field have confounded scientists:
Because of the core's high temperature and its electrical conductivity, scientists had calculated that the magnetism of Earth should have dissipated after only 20,000 years.
Older models of Earth's magnetic field could not account for why the planet's magnetic field flip-flops from pole to pole every 200,000 years on average.
Scientists could not understand why the planet's magnetic field is concentrated at the poles and not more evenly distributed.
These discrepancies led to the conclusion that there must be some mechanism inside Earth that regenerates and redirects the magnetic force and causes the polar reversals. Scientists theorized that an interior convection system was driving a "magnetic dynamo" in Earth's core.
In short, heat transfer from the inner core to the outer core - and changes in the chemical composition of the outer core - cause the liquid portion to swirl and move.
"You are converting kinetic energy from fluid energy into magnetic energy," says Dr. Glatzmaier. "But it's not obvious why the Earth's magnetic field is as intense as it is, or why it looks so dipolar, or why it undergoes field reversals occasionally."
During the past four years, computer models have begun to unravel some of these mysteries. Until this decade, the computational power needed to create such models was not widely available. Then, in 1995, Glatzmaier and Paul Roberts, a professor at the University of California at Los Angeles, used supercomputers to create the first physical models of Earth's geodynamo that were able to mathematically sustain a magnetic field.
According to the models, the inner core rotates faster than the outer core and the mantle. This helps explain the strength of the magnetic field - it would act like a dynamo on an electric motor that spins to create electrical charge.
The Glatzmaier-Roberts models also showed that the magnetic field tended to form a cylindrical pattern about Earth's north-south axis with opposing charges at either end, explaining the dipolar magnetic field of Earth.
Finally, the models indicated that the fluid motion in the outer core actually twists and shears the magnetic field, generating a new magnetic field to replace the parts of the field that diffuse.
New research
While Glatzmaier and others work with computers, geologists have been collecting samples of sediment from deep inside the planet in an attempt to answer the same questions about Earth's magnetic field.
Iron-rich minerals in sediments indicate the polar direction and the magnetic intensity of the field through their north-south alignment, like the needle of a compass. By determining how old the sediments are and matching that to the magnetic direction and strength of the field, scientists can re-create a history of Earth's magnetic field.
This week in the journal Nature, a team of researchers unveiled a history of Earth's magnetic field stretching back 800,000 years. Pieced together from 33 sediment reports, it goes back far enough to cover the last polar reversal 780,000 years ago.
Weak magnetic field
The history indicates that Earth's magnetic field declines dramatically over several thousand years preceding a polar reversal. "During reversals at the lowest part of the curve, the magnetic field is so low that some people believe that the earth is not protected by the magnetosphere during this time," says Jean Pierre Valet, a geologist and one of the authors of the paper.
Yet no correlation has been established between reductions in the magnetosphere and mass extinctions as a result of exposure to the solar wind, Dr. Valet says. Nor have any climate variations like the onset of ice ages been conclusively connected to changes in the magnetic field.
But drastic changes in the field would certainly affect our physical surroundings. In fact, they may already be changing. Scientists have noted that Earth's magnetic field has been declining for the past 150 years. This has led some to speculate that a field reversal is under way.
"While the earth's magnetic field is reversing, the magnetosphere and ionosphere (the electrically conducting level of the atmosphere) would be different from what they are today," says Glatzmaier.
(CNN) Hundreds of people are missing, with many presumed drowned, after a cyclone struck Pakistan's southern coast, sending tidal waves cascading over thousands of homes.
Emergency workers said it was not known how many of the missing had found shelter, and how many had drowned, but the workers said many were presumed dead.
Local residents said at least 100 fishermen on their boats when the cyclone struck were missing and presumed drowned. Government officials, who have been unable to reach many of the hardest-hit areas, estimate the missing at about 700, many presumed dead.
Some survivors sat knee-deep in mud where their homes once stood, seemingly unable to move. Others gathered their belongings and slogged through the waste to reach higher ground.
Many homes were pulverized in Keti Bander, a fishing village 25 miles (40 kms) southeast of Gharo. Residents clung to each other amid a mess of debris and water.
Six students at Heritage High School were injured today in a shooting at the Rockdale County school and authorities had a suspect in custody, officials said.
None of the injuries was believed to be life-threatening, said Bonnie Knight, a spokeswoman for Rockdale County schools.
School officials said the person who fired the shots was arrested shortly after the shooting, which occurred about 8 a.m.
The shooting was exactly a month after the April 20 slaughter at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., where two students killed 13 people before taking their own lives. The shootings occurred on the final day of classes for Heritage seniors. Rockdale Hospital was preparing its emergency room to treat the victims, but none had arrived by 8:45 a.m., said spokeswoman Susan Esslinger.
Later, Rockdale sheriff's officials said five people were sent to that hospital and a sixth to another unidentified hospital. School and sheriff's officials held a news conference at 9:45 a.m. on the school grounds. Parents rushed to the school after radio and television reports of the shooting. "Somebody at work heard it on the radio," said Darlene Gomez, 29, who was rushing up Ga. 138 past a long line of school buses that were sent to the school.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Disasters have cost the United States more than $500 billion in the past 20 years and the annual toll is continuing to rise due to an increasingly complex society and more people moving to disaster-prone areas. The inability to contain those rising costs is the result of a "shortsighted and narrow" view of our relationship with the environment, contends a new study involving 132 experts, financed by the National Science Foundation. "Human beings - not nature - are the cause of disaster losses, which stem from choices about where and how human development will proceed," the report, Disasters by Design, says. The United States has managed to reduce deaths and injuries from hurricanes over the past two decades.
Just when I thought our government was finally willing to give it to us straight, we get the message above. The N.S.F. states that "Human beings, not nature, are the cause of the disaster losses". If you read carefully, what the N.S.F. leaves out, is disaster causing events are larger than "ever". However, to their credit, they are suggesting millions of people should consider moving inland and perhaps "low disaster zones" The question is, "Just Where Are These Zones"?
Two years ago, I was taken to task one evening by a geologist friend of mine Bill Cary. We were talking about Earth Changes and where in the United States would be the safest place to live. I had told him I thought Texas, Colorado, Utah and most all other inland states would be the place to go. I mentioned to Bill, I receive calls and emails almost daily asking me "where should I move". So I proceeded to tell them what I had believed at the time.
Well well, It was as if Bill knew what I was going to say. He pulled out two of his research manuals filled with maps and graphs of ever disaster zone you could think of. Earthquakes, Volcanos, Tornadoes, Floods, Wind Storms, Droughts, Hurricanes etc.
Yes you guessed it. It covered every part of the United States map. I became a believer in that moment of clarity, it is not "where" you live...It will be "who" you live with. From that moment to this, when people ask me where they should move to, I tell them as I tell you, spend more time researching a community of people or maybe even a town, where you think you would best mesh with like minded people. This is a time to stay clear headed. A time for contemplation. You will need to trust your intuition more than ever. But in order to do so, you will need to clear your mind from distraction. Take some time out for you and your loved ones, and take a leap of faith. You have time, but not a lot. This is not a time of panic, it is a time of preparation.

Even though the article below by NBC is a bit short sighted, it is good to see the main stream media start to disclose the weather we are experiencing, is breaking records on a almost weekly basis. The next, and most important question to ask is, "why". It is Earth Changes TV's belief, this extreme weather phenomena is caused by the "magnetic shift". The magnetic field that surrounds the earth is shifting.
This has occurred, some scientist speculate, at least five times before. The magnetic field shifts, causing the earth's weather patterns to change, sometimes severely. It is believed the shift also heats up the core of the earth, causing increased volcanism and earthquakes. It also affects jet streams and upper atmosphere wind shears that come closer to the surface of the earth. This may be the cause of the increase of Tornadoes, also affecting it's wind speed.
This shift is caused by none other than the "Sun". As most of you know we are experiencing larger solar activity than ever in recent history. Many agree, this solar activity is likely to increase in the weeks and months ahead.

This year has been a year of weather extremes — bitter cold set against record warmth and the highest wind and snowfall ever observed. What’s behind the wild weather?
SCIENTISTS SAY La Niña, warming temperatures and shifting ocean currents are to blame and that clashing weather systems could bring even more extremes in the future.
The all-time world record for total snowfall measured over a single season was held Friday night by Washington state’s Mount Baker — 1,124 inches, almost 94 feet since Nov. 1. If the snow hadn’t compacted, it would be enough to cover a 10-story building. Or, if it covered the Statue of Liberty, only the arm would stick out.
Government scientists say the record snowfall is a result of the jet stream blowing storm after storm in the direction of northern Washington state. The ultimate cause is La Niña, a cooling of ocean waters that alters weather patterns.
“The snowfall was much more dramatic this year,” said Duncan Howat of the Mount Baker ski area. “The winds were higher, the temperatures were colder. We were just right under the jet stream all winter, which resulted in the huge amount of snow that we have.” More snow may fall in some remote spots of the globe like the Himalayas, but Mount Baker holds the record for the most snow ever measured on the globe.
OTHER RECORD SETTERS
And Mount Baker’s not the only record-setter this year. It’s been a year of
many extremes — bitter cold set against record warmth and strong winds. That
wind came in one of last week’s tornadoes in Oklahoma. It was calculated from
Doppler radar at 318 mph — an all-time world record.
There were also more tornadoes than ever before at the start of the year — 169 in January, an all-time record for the month. Alaska takes the prize for the coldest temperatures; it had its most widespread, longest cold wave in a decade this winter. The temperature was 64 below in some places. And on Jan. 2, Chicago had more snow than ever before in one day — a foot and a half, an all-time record for the city.
There were mild temperatures much of the time, and a new calculation by government meteorologists is about to declare the past winter in the lower-48 states the warmest "ever".
CLIMATE CHANGE?
Rather than attributing these changes to La Niña, scientists wonder if something
more fundamental is going on to warm temperatures and shift ocean currents.
In essence, climate change. “The importance here is that we accurately measure
these extreme events so it forms a baseline, an important indicator as to whether
our climate is changing,” said Andrew Horvitz with the National Weather Service.

L O G A N, Iowa, May 17 — Tornadoes swept through western Iowa on Sunday, killing two people and injuring at least 14, authorities said. The names of those who died were not released pending notification of relatives, said Jim Seymour, a hospital administrator. A tornado that developed near Logan in Harrison County at about 4 p.m. destroyed six homes, damaged several others and destroyed a bridge on a rural gravel road, authorities said. “We’re trying to piece all this together,” said Harrison County Sheriff Terry Baxter. “We’re looking at possibly three tornadoes.” All of the injured are from Harrison County, Seymour said.
Logan is about 20 miles northeast of Omaha, Neb. U.S. Highway 30 and Iowa Highway 127 were closed due to extensive damage reported in the area, including downed trees and power lines.
BEIJING (AP) - A tornado ripped through a rural county in southern China, killing 13 people and causing major damage to crops and houses, an official said Sunday. The tornado hit Suixi county in Guangdong province Saturday, completely destroying 178 houses and damaging 489 others, said an official at the county's meteorological bureau, who declined to give his name. Another 51 people were injured when the tornado hit, 35 of them seriously, the official said. Initial estimates of damage topped $414 million, said the official. Suixi is located in southern Guangdong, 1,240 miles south of Beijing.

(USGS) Preliminary hypocenter for earthquake of 1999 May 15, CALIFORNIA-NEVADA BORDER REGION: latitude 37.5 degrees north, longitude 118.8 degrees west, origin time 13 22 10.0 utc, depth shallow, magnitude 6.0 ML. The earthquake was felt in many parts of central california as far north as Placerville and south to Valencia. It is the largest earthquake in this general area since a magnitude 6.5 on July 21, 1986. There have been no reports of damage from today's earthquake. The hypocenter for today's earthquake has been furnished by the USGS Northern California Seismic Network and the UCB Berkeley Digital Seismic Network.
Jim Berkland, seismologist/geologist will be our guest "live" May 20th. He has stated it is going to be quite active for the next two months. In part, this is due to the enormous snowfall, and now run off in the mountainous areas.
Keep a very close eye on Mammoth Lake volcano activity which is in this very location.

In a New York Post interview with Art Bell yesterday, John Mainelli, of the NY Post, reports Art Bell denies he was involved in Porno Trafficking. Bell states he was busted when he moved his "Dating Service" (yah, right) from Monterey to San Diego.
Well well Mr. Bell, who is the liar and fraud now. You should have "just moved on" to other topics and personalities as so many of your listeners tried to advise you. But you seem to have stayed true to your word. "I go after someone until there is nothing left of them". Ouch, the lessons we learn can be very painful.
Folks, I truly hope we can all leave "Peyton Place" now, and move on to what affects us all. Art , I hope you agree, and not fall prey to your self-defeating ways of attacking others on the air. Let Us All Move On!

ART BELL SLAMS INTERNET CLAIM OF BUST FOR PORN

A former guest on Art Bell's radio show is claiming the UFO junkie was busted on pornography charges in the '70's.
"Statements that basically said that Art was arrested and served time for activities involving the trafficking of pornographic materials in Monterey, California, at a local TV station back in the 1970's (are) defamatory, slanderous and libelous," says a spokesman on Bell's website (www.artbell.com).
The allegation was made last month by one-time Bell guest Robert A.M. Stephens on an Internet radio show hosted by David John Oates.
Stephens' allegation caused a landslide of fallout on the web and sparking an aggressive response from Bell who is heard locally on WABC (770 AM).
"(Stephens) went berserk on my show. I called him a fraud on the air," Bell told The Post yesterday, "These charges are complete fabrications."
Stephens told The Post yesterday: "The arrest was covered by a Monterey paper. Records get expunged over time and Bell had them changed."
Bell responded by providing The Post with a statement from the Monterey County Sheriff's Department stating that there are no records of him being arrested there in the '70s.
And the city's local newspaper, The Monterey County Herald, had in its archives just one story about Bell's past - a 1978 article on a new video dating service Bell had started.
Bell did volunteer that he was busted when he later moved his dating service to San Diego.
"They took all my stuff and files because they thought it was something else," said the popular all-night paranormalist.
"All charges were dropped."
Stephens said:
"Bell cut me off his show…(and) spent the rest of the show and the next four months publicly defaming me," Stephens said. "I told him and his legal (counsel) to stick it and that I welcomed him to sue me."
"He's going to get his wish," vowed Bell. "There's no indication that he works for NASA … and he's been exposed as a fraud on the Internet."
A spokesman for NASA's space shuttle program, which Stephens claims to consult, did not return calls seeking verification.

Now that the record has been set, the next question is what happens to all that snow once it starts to melt — a sudden heat wave or warm weather mixed with rain could cause a rapid melting of the snow and flooding in areas below the mountain.
That’s something they’ll be keeping a close eye on Mount Baker in the coming weeks.

Thanks for the query.
No real feud. Art Bell is an entertainer, but he is also a pathological liar.
He offers the listeners
doom and gloom, preying on folks' worst fears, to the point they will and have
killed themselves, whether
it is the UFO-Paranormal crowd, before that the militia days, etc. There is
never the definition
what is real and what is not.
I was invited on his
show after being in this culture for 2 months to debate another one of his most
darkest guest, Richard
C. Hoagland. When invited by Bell to debate this man I took it seriously. I
prepared 200 questions.
I was told I'd have all 4 hours to debate.
I ended up with 12 minutes.
I got one question out. It was to Hoagland. It was why Hoagland had
told a Dr. Richard Sauder
to move from Washington D.C. since Washington D.C was going to drop
nukes on itself. Hoagland
denied it. I told him he was lying. Bell cut me off his show. 2 days later Dr.
Sauder issued a public
statement that it was true, he had been warned by Hoagland of this thing.
Bell spent the rest
of the show publicly defaming me. He went on for the next 4 months publicly
defaming me. I ask him
to stop. He told me privately and publicly that I should try and stop him. I
took him up on his offer.
I told him and his legal
council to stick it and that I welcomed him to sue me. They have declined. I
explained to him, his
lawyers, his audience through my two websites, that what was alright for Bell
to
do to many many people
via his radio show Coast to Coast is okay, as long as no one does it to
him. He calls this 'defamation'.
So be it. I will get
far worse in my dissent of this culture that I have now termed 'Strange' and
is now
a moniker throughout
this dark regime'.
Bell has to apologize,
state what is entertainment and what is not, and responsibly be an entertainer.
So far, him and Jacor
resort to racketeering to shut people up or keep competing shows from
voicing anything. A quick
view around Ufology shows this to be true--they are all silent. Sightings
online, Earth Changes,
Reverse Speech engineering, etc. have all been threatened with everything
from fire to death if
they talk about Bell and his antics.
At some point, this must be revealed.
I came into this 'field'
of the macabre' after being ask to report on the Montana UFO event, which I
did not see. Its 6 months
now. I find this whole UFology regime' a sort of dark cultic religion on our
national being. I take
issue with the pathological lying about NASA, true events distorted into lies,
etc, while embracing
a terror to an already disheveled populace that has lost its ability for
discernment between that
which is real and that which is utter fantasy.
This dissent has not gone over well. It has not gone over well with the Pope of Strange, Art Bell.

Rare Quake Rattles Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) - A small but rare earthquake shook a 40-block span of this city early Thursday, damaging a medical building with about 100 people inside. No injuries were reported.
The quake, which registered a magnitude of 3.0, was considered weak but uncommon for a Midwestern state like Kansas. ``It's an unusual event but certainly nothing to be alarmed about,'' said Don Steeples, a professor in the Geology Department at the University of Kansas. John Minsch, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey, said he knew of just one other instance of an earthquake registered in the area. That quake registered 3.8 in 1931.
About 100 health care workers and patients were evacuated from the Indian Springs Medical Building after the quake hit at about 9:20 a.m.
Don Denney, spokesman for the Unified Government, said cracks were ``spread out all over'' the two-story building. A parking lot also was damaged near the building, where the pavement had buckled and dropped off about 8 feet.
TOKYO (AP) - A strong earthquake shook large parts of northern Japan early Thursday but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, authorities said. The 6.1-magnitude quake struck at 2:59 a.m. and was centered in the eastern part of the island of Hokkaido, 550 miles northwest of Tokyo, the Meteorological Agency said.

Aside from two USGS e-mails to ECTV confirming that the data appears to be totally authentic...(To quote/paraphrase one confirmation, "the artifact"...is on the original data)...The only other response I received from NASA some time ago (can't remember her name but she's in PR) was that people see faces in clouds too, and something about her dog also seeing them. It was a very lame response for someone working in our Space Agency, especially in a PR position. I had a mind to try and do something about her attitude via the General Council or something, but let it slide instead.
Then of course there are the skeptics that like to use the older SAGANESE-like comments.... Another real genuine group of deep thinkers there! Then strange as it may seem, but it stands to reason when you really think about it...Hoagland and Carlotto are ignoring it. Why? Because they have too much time and money invested in books bobbles and trinkets to Cydonia to take the chance that sales of their goods will wane...Even the artist Kynthia (another Cydonia trinket investor) says we see faces in clouds and rocks everywhere.
In essence, it's a terrible two-front war!... On one side we have the mainstream and diehard skeptics that think I or anyone who supports my claim is nuts, and on the other side, we have the most famous of the anomalists ignoring the situation because of money...Truly sad really...But when you think about it, it always seems to come down to money...To hell with the truth!
I'm not saying that this new face I've found is a guaranteed ticket to a past civilization on Mars, but the way I see it, right now it's the best thing going and more people need to pay attention. If handled well by all it could well be the strongest tool available to us at this time...I know the public will be interested when they see it! The only real problem is that it looks TOO good...Some will think it's a fake! Oh well...All we can do is work on convincing them that it isn't, and that has already begun with some success thanks to Mitch Battros of ECTV.

It would be a difficult task to deny the "record breaking" weather we are now experiencing on a almost weekly basis. The largest tornado ever recorded. 1998, the warmest year "ever". The Larson ice shelf melting faster than expected. Seven volcanos currently active. Mudslides and avalanches killing more people in the last year than ever before. Record breaking snow fall in the northwest mountain range. More floods than previously recorded. Meteorologist forecasters are expecting the largest hurricane season we have ever experienced. This is not predictions or prophecy. This is now! Are you surprised?
When I started Earth Changes TV over four years ago, I did so after having a profound vision on January 3, 1995 (see "About Mitch Battros" on main menu) that showed me of the exceptional weather phenomena and earth changes that were to come. I had never had such an experience in my life. I was so moved by this and filled with a sense of purpose, I went to my local Red Cross and received training for the Disaster Team, mental health unit within weeks. Then I was trained to become a trainer for our local FEMA group, the King County Emergency Mgnt Office in Seattle.
I remember when I would talk to folks about what I thought would happen in the next few years to come, I would get that distant 1000 yard stare. It was as if they didn't hear a word I said. At best, I would receive a "that's nice". Or from family members "Well, we love you". haha Now, it appears I have gone from some wacko person who is cute and could be tolerated, to a visionary. Hasn't this happened to you? WE are all visionaries. If you are reading this email, I know you are also paying close attention to what's happening.
Folks, what you have read in the first paragraph, is not of the future, it is now. I have been very careful to remain in the sciences (facts) and gently bridge the gap to the "esoteric". Now more than ever, have they come so close. This is not millennium madness, it is a factual documentation of "Records" since the time they were maintained.
What is it all about? I believe it is about coming back to communities. Relying on each other once again. Having traveled the world, I noticed we had lost something, particularly in the United States, a sense of union, togetherness, community. A joining together of spirit, mind and soul. HAUULA, Hawaii (AP) - Divers plan to search a deep pool at the base of a 90-foot waterfall for the body of a California woman missing since a Mother's Day landslide showered tons of boulders on holiday hikers. The death toll from Sunday's landslide in Sacred Falls State Park increased to seven Tuesday when Mark Johnson of Los Angeles died of his injuries. The missing woman, who is presumed dead, would bring the toll to eight. Johnson, 29, was among dozens of hikers sunning themselves near the waterfall in one of Hawaii's most dramatic hiking spots when boulders, some the size of small cars, came crashing down. His 24-year-old sister, Jenifer, was also killed by the landslide.
HAVANA (AP) - Two tornadoes have killed five people in central Cuba and more tornadoes were likely in the region, government media reported Tuesday. The Communist Party daily Granma said the two tornadoes damaged hundreds of homes in Pedro Betancourt in Matanzas province, and in Cruces in Cienfuegos province over the weekend. Electrical and telephone service in both communities was knocked out. The first tornado struck Saturday in Pedro Betancourt, about 85 miles east of Havana. Four people were killed, including a 3-year-old girl and a 75-year-old woman. The second struck Sunday in Cruces, about 120 miles east of the capital, and killed a 78-year-old woman. Government weather experts estimated the tornado had winds of nearly 250 mph.
BALTIMORE (AP) - Doctors need training on the symptoms of anthrax so they don't think an infected person just had a bad flu, according to scientists studying the possibility of a terrorist anthrax attack. In a report being published in Wednesday's Journal of the American Medical Association, the Working Group on Civilian Biodefense says an anthrax attack could happen and larger amounts of the vaccine need to be at the ready. Anthrax is colorless, odorless, inexpensive to make and easy to transport. The group cited a 1993 government report that said it would take only about 20 pounds of anthrax to kill 3 million people, the death toll equal or more than that which could result from a hydrogen bomb.

How did it all start:
Robert AM Stephens had made his way up the talk show circuit of which Earth
Changes TV was his first interview. I did the
interview myself. I found him to be very sincere and quite brilliant. He was
able to describe what people had witnessed
regarding anomalies in the Montana skies with great definition and a lingo only
a person with a background in NASA could
have. I found him to be totally forthcoming and excited to be able to contribute
to the UFO world. At the time of this
interview, he could not have imagined what he would be getting into.
It was not long before Art Bell had invited Robert A.M. Stephens on to his
show to debate Richard Hoagland regarding
assorted claims by Hoagland. Why Art Bell singled out Robert Stephens, for what
now appears to have been a set up, is still
a mystery. Perhaps the two (Bell-Hoagland) thought he would be an easy target
to use to which they could display their
prowess. Oh boy, what an oversight.
The topics were expected to range from Nexrad, NORAD/Fence project, the Phoenix
lights and UFO's. It quickly turned
into a free for all. Art Bell and Richard Hoagland appeared stunned to find
they had come up against someone who may
indeed know what they were talking about. Soon the insults started to come from
Richard Hoagland. As a defense, Robert
Stephens was demanded by Art to state his position. RAMS had little choice in
this rapid fire format orchestrated by Bell, to
abruptly state "Richard Hoagland is a liar, he has no data to back up his
statements". This is when Bell and Hoagland joined
together to maintain a personal attack on Stephens.
Stephens had prepared 200 questions for the debate, directed to Richard Hoagland.
Hoagland was taken by complete
surprise. He was speechless. But soon Art Bell came to the rescue. Robert Stephens
was only allowed to get one question
out. It was a question stating Richard C. Hoagland warned others that our own
US government was planning to release
nuclear weapons on it's own capitol in Washington D.C. This was confirmed by
Dr. Richard Sauders who was warned by
Richard Hoagland to move out quickly.
Yes, I know folks, unbelievable but true. It was at this point, which was about
12 minutes into the interview that Stephens
was cut off the air. Almost immediately after Stephens was censored, Art Bell
started his attacks. He and his lynch mob
started their defamation attack, calling Stephens a liar and a fraud (relating
to his claim of being a Navy Seal). Bell and gang
had hoped this would be enough to quells Stephens for good. But to Stephens
brilliant maneuver, he stated "Yes, I am a liar
and a fraud. I don't know what I am talking about". Bell and company took
this and ran with it.
To their shock and demise, they slowly realized they had been the ones who
were duped. It is unknown why Art Bell continues
to haunt Robert AM Stephens. Is it out of fear, or perhaps it is simply fueled
by ego. Whatever the case, it is clear Robert AM
Stephens is here to stay.
Mr. Stephens can be rather harsh and often profane. This writer would rather
not have to see the choice of words he uses. I
have made this known to Robert Stephens, and he is aware of my disdain of his
sometimes overly aggressive demeanor.
He quotes "As can be seen from my interaction with many, I
am as I am dealt with, as any human in our species responds to
approach. Garnishing of fury out of hand brings forth wrath. Kindness
solicits kindness.". Understanding what had happened
to Stephens upon his arrival to the Art Bell scene, gives one a little more
tolerance or understanding for Mr. Stephens
behavior.

a part of himself you have never seen
before. He describes in a way you will not forget, of his never forgotten love,
Judy Resnik, NASA astronaut.

We met in 1983 at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida.
She was Dr. Judith Resnik, astronaut. 'Judy' to those
close to
her. She was brunette, feisty, fun,
and most beautiful. Her long dark locks were enchanting and her Armenian
eyes glowed
with life, with zest, with the yearning to do fun things
and to see the final void for its mysteries; space.
I was a contractor working on shuttle documentation.
For this I was and am among many. But I also am an artist and this has
opened many doors.
At the time we met, the art, the artist, opened a woman's heart to mine.
We grew together with the mutual interest of the world's first space ship; the space shuttle.
NASA was our life and the joy of many things that
few get to participate in; space, shuttles, telescopes,
astronauts,
Presidents, laurels of praise, paintings in
the national gallery, shows, gatherings, parading and zesting
on life on high.
The Voyage of Youth.
Days and weeks rolled onward. Judy's second space
flight was scheduled for December 1985. She was the 'other' woman
while the press concentrated on the school teacher.
Time got closer. Time got even closer until the first static test of the
orbiter 'stack' as it is called when it is ready for
launching.
The first test went fine. The crew went well and so did the hardware.
But there had been anomalies (problems) with the SRBs (Solid
Rocket Boosters) since STS-2. They leaked at the field
joints. Sometimes they burned a little at the rubber
O rings that were at each joint.
Few knew this.
Judy and I did not. Few astronauts at the time knew alot about the shuttle hardware per se'.
Time got closer.
Finally, 61-A, Columbia, got off in the
first of January, 1986, and 51-L was slopped over to follow in mid
January.
Unusual scheduling for two flights but the second launch
pad, 39-B, was to be used and so it was easy to work two orbiter
stacks for flight.
The first launch attempt occurred on the 19th of January.
It scrubbed. It scrubbed again, and again. And again,
and again.
And then, it scrubbed one last time, forever.
Launch morning dawned clear and very cold.
It was January 28, 1986.
The cold front was so severe it left ice on the launch pad.
Pad crews checked the ice on the pad, orbiter stack,
and the FSS (fixed service structure). They checked it again, and
again. Finally, they signed off on the launch
criteria and the last hurdle before launch was passed.
I was on top of the LCC (Launch Control Center) preparing to watch my friend, and sweetheart, and three of the other seven
crew that I knew personally, go for launch of the 25th shuttle flight.
The countdown passed on through 9 minutes and went into the built in hold time.
The cold was worse after a time than any one realized.
Inside the orbiter's flight deck and lower deck the temperature was a
chilly 62 degrees.
The final countdown passed on through T-2 minutes and counting.
The world's first true space ship, number 2 of the 4 in the
fleet, was ready now, like a bird to arc forth.
The rumblings and sound of near life were threading out from the stack as it
sat, coming closer to ignition.
T-31 seconds. The stack is now on its own,
for everything. It is also fully automated. There is no human intervention
now.
The clock counted on down through T-6 seconds.
The three main engines lit to life. Challenger was finally
going to go. The stack arced over the normal 8 feet to the north off
center as the main engines came up to full thrust. Then,
right at T-0 the solids ignited and came up to full thrust in less than
half
a second. The huge retaining bolts blew, and the ship was away.
On a thunderous, out of this world arc of yellow
hot fire 900 feet long it rose majestically and went into the programmed roll
program to set it over on its back as it rose aloft.
The thunder and the concussion can be felt within the body up to 12 miles
away. We were 3.8 miles from the pad.
Challenger rose.
At 72.58 seconds it began to quickly come apart.
The last words she said was the night before on the Astronaut telephone links to families where she was sequestered, "see ya in
a week green eyes", a moniker for me in that she always loved my green eyes so she said.
I Saw her last as she came out of the astro lodge and into
the astrovan on her way to the pad and her ship. I shouted to her.
She shouted back for which I did not hear, and blew
me a kiss. A kiss.
The fireball erupted at 73 seconds. A thing both
fascinating and frightening, a cancer colored nightmare unfolding
in the dark
cobalt skies above the world's first true space port.
It was failing before my eyes; before the nation's;
before the people of the world. The sum total of our achievement,
now
spiraling in a tendril of uncommon fiery arcs, surging
back toward the ocean surface, now 7 miles below the disintegrating
craft.
My mouth began to open as did everyone else's.
The vehicle was gone now.
All forward motion had ceased.
The sound of thunderous ascent still came down the cone
of deflection to us all, as if it was still going on up into the void
with
systems nominal. I had heard that enough times it
caused a confusion in my mind, fighting my ears registration to the brain,
verses what the eyes were seeing. Why was it not going
forward still, when I could still hear its 70 million horsepower of
thrust driving it upwards.
And then the sound stopped too.
I slowly turned to my right off to the press area where
CBS, NBC, CBS and the complex 39 geodesic press dome sits,
and
for all the distance I could see over the 3/4 mile was humans,
52,000 of them, silent, mouths open, looking up, stunned.
Silence.
Silence from above, silence from below.
Just the albatrosses now, churning their lonesome wail as they winged overhead in the quiet of the instant of searing terror.
We do not see death like this among loved ones. Generally
it is a knock on the door in the night. We are informed that uncle
Jack or whom ever has plowed into a light pole, or
heart attack stopped him. We are not used to seeing a loved one right
on
the cusp of the grandest adventure of all time, soaring
in complete personal, professional, national triumph, on the
world's
first true space ship, right at the height of utter
triumph.
One second; triumph
The next second, literally disappear in a orange fog of searing terror.
A fireball (over turret peak?)
Seared forever into the brain forever.
The great ship was dead and gone and was falling delicately back down to one of the Earth's ocean.
And NASA knew.
And I hated them for this.
For two years I hated them.
I will never forgive them for this. I will always remember.
I did other things for those two years.
I told NASA, "fuck you."
They sent tapes a few months later to each family member.
I didn't know what it was when the package came. I put in the
player in my little studio in Montana. I listened.
It dawned on me it was the voices of the crew in the crew compartment for
the 4 minute ride down to water impact. I said to
myself in my sadness, "You fuckers." I went down to my
bed in my studio
and cried some more. I cried for Judy, for NASA,
for everyone, our wonderful country, and for me. I wanted
Judy back.
I wanted Challenger to not fall down.
It is now 13 years, 98 days, and some odd hours since that moment that everything changed.
The gulf of years quickly fall behind me as I entrain forward
in life between me and this thing. But every January 28th, at
11:37 AM, I pause for just a moment. The pain
and terror, oddly, is the same, for just a moment, but
her face is cloudy
now as I remember it. I remember the fireball,
and why I take such terrible furious anger of those 'fireballs on a certain
few
people's website, but I can't remember exactly the lines
of her face or her soft watery dark eyes.
Every year, I pause for just a moment.
In great sadness.
It was a grand time. It was 'old NASA'. It was a time of being invincible.
She was a fine woman. She played piano in the dark well, in candle light. She was a human being.
For 73 seconds, whether she knew it or not,
wanted to or not, she was on the edge of a still very raw technology,
hanging
her soul along with 6 others right out over the yawning
red maw.
For 73 seconds, she was a pioneer, an explorer,
an astronaut. A very fine woman. She was there in that thing,
that
beautiful space ship, surging ahead in that Ahura
Mazda Surge that few of us ever will know or feel in this lifetime, moving
vertically at 4900 feet per second.
Surging at Mach 10, going up, screaming with all motors running nominal. Triumph at full bore acceleration. Rising up with all
engines running at 104%, right at,
"Challenger, Go For Throttle Up."
....then she went away.

Authorities are on red alert after Mexico's Colima Volcano erupted Monday, spraying its slopes with lava, setting off brush fires and creating a giant mushroom cloud, the Interior Ministry said. Authorities evacuated 315 nearby residents after the 14,319-foot (4,339-meter) volcano, also known as the "Volcano of Fire," blew its stack. The mushroom-shaped cloud stretched about four miles (six kilometers) high. Colima Volcano borders Colima and Jalisco states about 285 miles (460 kilometers) west of Mexico City.

So I think the answer is yes, it is an authentic site for NASA data, meant to be a resource for researchers and the general public. I have looked at the original Viking images in this area and they look essentially the same, so I do not believe that the imagery you are looking at has been tampered with in any way. Here is what I discovered regarding the "new face artifact" that was originally discussed on other WWW sites. As the USGS employee responsible for the development of the "PDS Mars Explorer for the Armchair Astronaut" I can only verify that the artifact in question is a real feature on the planet (see attachments below). We looked at the original EDR raw frame that was used in the MDIM and discovered this feature also exists in the original frame. No "hacking" was done on our site to artificially create this artifact.

The worst of the monster tornadoes that clobbered Oklahoma this week was an F-5, a half-mile to a mile wide with wind speeds of between 261 and 318 miles per hour, the National Weather Service confirmed Friday. That's the most powerful rating possible for a twister and the only F-5 tornado ever recorded in Oklahoma City, the Weather Service said
TOKYO (AP) - A moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.9 shook parts of eastern Japan Friday. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The Meteorological Agency said the 9:48 p.m. local time quake was centered about 12 miles underground in central Yamanashi Prefecture, about 60 miles west of Tokyo. The temblor was felt as far away as central Tokyo. There was no danger of tsunami, undersea waves triggered by volcanic activity or earthquakes, the agency said. A quake of magnitude 4 can shake houses and cause hanging objects, such as lamps, to swing.
WASHINGTON (AP) - A strong earthquake shook the Kodiak Island region of Alaska Friday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. The Survey said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 and occurred at a shallow depth at 10:14 a.m. ET (6:14 a.m. local time). The quake was centered about 85 miles south-southwest of Kodiak, 340 miles south-southwest of Anchorage, the Survey reported.
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - An earthquake flattened hundreds of homes Friday in southern Iran, killing at least 26 people and injuring 100, Iranian media reported. Most of the dead were children buried under the rubble of their collapsing homes, Hasan Momtahen, the head of the Natural Disasters Headquarters, was quoted as saying by the official Islamic Republic News Agency. The report was monitored in Dubai. IRNA said two quakes of magnitude 6.8 and 5.7 struck the area around Shiraz and Kazerun cities in Fars province. The United States Geological Survey, however, measured the quake at 6.3 magnitude, and said the second tremor was an aftershock with 5.2 magnitude in the same location. IRNA said some 50 aftershocks of more than 3 magnitude hit the area.
(MSNBC) Gutherie, Okla.---Tornadoes are one of nature’s most powerful forces. Imagine being swept away by the winds of a funnel cloud, helpless and out of control.
IT TOOK LESS than four seconds. With Monday evening’s giant storm fast approaching, Kiespert took cover in his hallway, lying on the floor of his house in Crescent, Okla. In a flash, the tornado ripped the 98-year-old home off its foundation.
“It twisted to the left and twisted to the right, and three or four seconds after that, it was all over with,” Kiespert said. Then it exploded.
“When I started to move, I thought to myself, ‘I bought the farm tonight,’” the mechanic said. Caught up in a funnel cloud, Kiespert began spinning with all sorts of debris, including two barbed wire fences and a mulberry tree. He says he flew through the air, landing over a quarter of a mile from where he started. “I’m just bruised up, banged up, beat up,” he said. “Took a pretty good whooping.”
Neighbor Vicky Davis found Kiespert and tried to make him walk. He told her was he ready to lay down and die. Finally rescuers arrived. Paramedic Teresa Steinberg cut off Kiespert’s clothes to treat the wounds. “Inside his overalls was lots of weeds and dirt that were all inside and inside his boots,” Steinberg recalled. “It was shocking.”
(MSNBC) Oklahoma City, — Authorities said Wednesday that approximately 100 people remained missing in the Oklahoma City area following Monday’s deadly tornadoes, raising fears that the death toll from the disaster — currently 44, including victims in Kansas and Texas — could increase as rescuers search the wreckage of thousands of badly damaged or destroyed homes. Meanwhile, strong winds in Tennessee late Wednesday killed at least three people.

I believe it to be real, but there are others who think someone hacked into the NASA site and manipulated. However, they seem to agree the photo itself is original.

2) The imagery at the URL you sent me is most likely not a single image or "photo." I'll tell you how it gets created (in a nutshell). The digital image maps, which comprise the dataset that the system works from, are mosaics of many Viking images. These image maps are very large in terms of storage, so they are "tiled" into pieces of a more manageable size. When you request an image from the Armchair Astronaut (as you do when you load the URL) the system goes out to the tiled DIMs, determines which tiles are required to create the requested image map, and "knits" the appropriate areas together to create the requested image "on-the-fly."
3) I have looked at the original Viking images in this area and they look essentially the same, so I do not believe that the imagery you are looking at has been tampered with in any way.

Robert AM Stephens, the person who originally stated the photo from NASA was a fake, now admits the photo is "original". This photo comes from a NASA mirror site hosted by the USGS. They to, state it is "original".
Mr. Stephens now says "Somebody may have hacked the NASA site some time ago, it is easy and happens all the time".
Well folks, I must tell you, I had no idea NASA had such an unsecured web organization. Until someone's comes forward to prove Mr. Terry James manipulated the photo, I stand by his find.
Mr. Stephens claims he had interviewed Mr. James. This appears to be a false statement. Mr. Stephens has not been able to come up with any proof whatsoever that this "interview" ever took place. In addition, Mr. Stephens has not come forward with any proof that the "2nd face on Mars" photo, was manipulated by Mr. James or any other named person.
Robert Stephens article: Behold has just learned that "kksamurai" has now admitted to faking the 'new' faked Mars face that appears on this lifeform's website. When we asked "kksamurai" why it would fake another Mars face, whimpering, he said, "I..I ..just wanted the attention. I thought it would be funny and I thought it would be another twist on this already messed up culture. Art Bell, and his shenanigans was the core inspiration. I feel terrible now."
Mr. James statement: "First of all, there is no way that others had anything at all to do with this new face on Mars...No-one led me to the site, I found it on my own....So...If Mr. Stephens really works for NASA, he's building a false case of evidence against me. He's simply lying! I have never in my life hacked into any site in my life, I am not a programmer, and have no idea at all as to how this is done. I swear on everything that is holy or cherished by anyone and everyone that the Face on Mars I found is exactly how I found it."

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) - Hemorrhagic fever has killed 63 people in northeastern Congo, but there is no indication the disease was caused by the feared Ebola virus, the World Health Organization said Tuesday. "It is an extremely rampant hemorrhagic fever, but 58 of the deaths were in men, there are respiratory complications and the people who wash the dead bodies have not been infected," WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl said in Geneva. "All these indicate against it being Ebola." The aid group Doctors Without Borders, which had a team at the scene of the outbreak, said tissue samples would be sent for testing in South Africa. An outbreak of Ebola in the Congolese city of Kikwit in 1995 killed 245 people. Many were infected by washing the bodies of victims before burial.

I receive your updates and I enjoy the thoughts you pass on, but as far as a F6 tornado, whoever told you that is wrong..F6 is theoretical..
Even if one happened it would be very hard to identify because a F5 destroys everything and the F scale is based on damage. So if everything is gone how can you tell it was a 350 mph tornado or a 270 mph tornado. To verify a F6 it would take a long time for investigators to come confirm it. The best way would be with a portable doppler unit that would have been a few miles away. Then they could have a good confirmation.
BTW size of a tornado does not necessarily mean, it is a F4 or F5. Some quarter mile tornadoes have been confirmed F5's. These were probably big F4's and F5's..

(CNN) An outbreak of a disease similar to the Ebola virus has killed at least 63 people during the past few months in the Democratic Republic of Congo, health officials said Monday. The affliction, which causes sudden high fevers and massive bleeding like Ebola, surfaced in January in the northeast part of the country near Watsa, a town close to the border of Sudan and Uganda.
(CNN) Tornadoes tore through Oklahoma and Kansas on Monday night, wiping out whole neighborhoods, killing at least 46 people and injuring hundreds. At least 36 were reported dead in Oklahoma, and 10 were killed in Kansas. Nearly 2,000 homes were obliterated. Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating has called in the National Guard to patrol the streets and police were sealing off a 25-mile square section of southern Oklahoma City, where the governor estimated between 600 to 800 homes were destroyed.
"It's just absolutely unprecedented. No one has ever heard of something like this," Keating told CNN. "There are a lot of communities we are getting information from the highway patrol and sheriff's offices that have literally been obliterated." More than 250 people were injured in Oklahoma.
Pete Lawson, vice president of Midwest City Regional Medical Center, said his facility had treated 75 injured -- from infants to one patient 90 years old. He said he could not estimate the number of critically injured.
WASHINGTON (AP) - On Earth, the south pole may well be the worst place to live, but that region of the Moon could be the best choice for future bases. Three sites, located near the Moon's south pole, provide nearly constant sunlight, researchers reported in the May 1 edition of Geophysical Research Letters. Having nearly constant light means the bases could use solar energy, reducing or eliminating the need for other energy sources, according to the team lead by D. Ben Bussey of the European Space Agency in Noordwijk, Netherlands. In addition to the energy potential of the sites in the sun, there are nearby sites that are in constant darkness, the researchers added. There is the possibility that water and ice could be hidden in such locations.
There have been 30+ deaths, numerous injuries. This appears to be the first "Level F-6" Tornado seen. The scale until now has only gone up to 5.
