Dear Mitch,
I live in Jacksonville, Fl. and we're awaiting Hurricane Floyd which is supposed
to hit tomorrow between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. They now say that the eye of
Floyd will be closer to Jax. than any other Fla. coastal city (within 25-60
miles) depending on it's wobble at the time and they say that the hurricane
force winds will reach 50 miles inland.
Mayor Delaney issued a mandatory evacuation this morning at
7:00. After 6:00 tonight they will not let anybody else out. A lot
of people at the beach are choosing to stay and ride it out. St. Augustine
has just issued a mandatory evacuation of the city. We live 10 miles from
the beach and have decided to stay. We've boarded up the house as best
we could. Most of our neighbors are staying also. The roads are
so jammed that if you decided to leave you couldn't go anywhere. I 10
and 75 are
bumper to bumper to Lake City. Keep us in your prayers.
L.I.
