Egyptian Responsible for USS Cole Attack: Yemeni President

ADEN (AFP) - Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh told the Arab television channel MBC Wedneday that an Egyptian national was responsible for the fatal attack on the USS Cole guided-missile destroyer October 12.

"The person who perpetrated the operation (against the USS Cole), who could have been accompanied by another person (when the attack took place), is of Egyptian nationality, according to the early results of the enquiry," the Yemeni president said.

Saleh told the Qatari satellite channel al-Jazira on October 18 "the two people involved in the attack on the American destroyer were killed in the explosion."

The attack against the USS Cole left 17 dead and 38 wounded.
