Head of Tehran
City Council Rahmatollah Khosravi said on Tuesday that the city
council pursues the strategy of reinforcing Tehran's resistance
to possible earthquake that may hit the city.
Inaugurating
a nationwide `Preparatory Program for Elementary and Secondary
Schools to Reduce the Damages from Quake', he said that Tehran
is under threat of a quake and the City Council has called for
proper planning to deal with possible quake. He said that public
training is one of the methods to reduce the damages caused by
quake and that reinforcement of the buildings is another way to
deal with the threat. He called on the association of civil engineers
to seriously take into account the standards criteria in construction
of new buildings which should be quake-resistant.
The International
Research Center on Earthquake sponsored the nationwide program
in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, the Iranian Red
Crescent Society (IRCS) and the Committee in charge of Reducing
Losses of Natural Disasters.
