Southeast Asian Floods Claim More Than 120 Lives

World News Australia

Landslides and floods in South-East Asia have killed more than 120 people after days of heavy rain.

On the Indonesia island of Sumatra, at least 62 people are dead and scores of others are missing.

Communications have been cut and thousands of people forced to evacuate their homes.

In southern Thailand, flood waters are now receding after leaving 40 people dead and bringing misery to more than half a million.

A clean-up operation is under way, but health officials now fear the spread of diseases associated with contaminated water supplies.

Officials in neighbouring Malaysia say the death toll there stands at 20.

The floods in north of the country have been described as the worst in 12 years.
