Volcanic Ash Falls On Ecuador City...11/30/99

QUITO, Ecuador (AP) - Winds blew ash from the Pichincha volcano Monday, giving parts of Ecuador's capital a light dusting. The accumulation was significantly less than four days earlier, when an eruption from the 15,840-foot volcano blanketed Quito's 1.4 million residents. No injuries were reported. The airport remained closed while crews continued a cleanup of last week's ash fall, which authorities said can harm jet engines. More than 300,000 students were allowed to return to class after Education Minister Rosangela Adoum ordered schools shut Friday for the third time in seven weeks. Pichincha awoke from 339 years of inactivity last year, and for the last two months has registered a series of large and small eruptions.
