ISTANBUL, Turkey (AP) - A strong aftershock Thursday shook a region of western Turkey still struggling to recover from a massive earthquake that left some 17,000 people dead. At least one person was killed and 91 injured. The 5.7-magnitude aftershock struck the town of Adapazari at 4:41 p.m. At least one elderly man died of a heart attack and 83 people in the town were injured, municipal officials said. Six people were injured in nearby Izmit and another two people were injured in the nearby port town of Golcuk, said Izmit Gov. Kemal Onal. Many of the people rushed to hospitals were suffering from broken bones or shock, the Anatolia news agency reported. Throughout the quake area, people were seen rushing frantically through the streets searching for relatives.
