DANANG, Vietnam (AP) - The government began airlifts of food Friday to thousands of people stranded by Vietnam's worst flooding in four decades as officials frantically tried to clear a major landslide so they can bring in more aid. Rain was still falling, heavily in some places, continuing to hamper overwhelmed rescue efforts. More rain was in the immediate forecast, and floodwaters were starting to rise again after subsiding slightly Thursday. The death toll rose to 262. More than half the fatalities were reported in Thua Thien Hue province, where Gov. Nguyen Van Me said thousands of troops and police had reached only a quarter of the devastated area. One witness said the province looked like a sea.
