Officials in Uzbekistan reported on Monday that a magnitude 7.0 earthquake hit the region last Saturday, injuring at least four people and destroying an unspecified number of buildings and homes.
The Uzbek Ministry for Emergency Situations said the quake was centered in the Kamashi region of southern Uzbekistan, near the community of Yertepa, about 250 miles southwest of the capital Tashkent.
Emergency headquarters have been set up in the stricken region to care for victims.
