Several Injured As Tornado Hits Kentucky Town
LEITCHFIELD, Ky. (Reuters) - At least eight people were injured on Tuesday when a tornado hit the town of Leitchfield as violent spring storms swept Kentucky, officials said.
``We have received eight patients with basically minor injuries -- lacerations, possible fractures,'' said Edna Duggins, a spokeswoman for Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
The National Weather Service said local law enforcement officials reported a tornado over the town at mid-afternoon. City officials said an industrial park was damaged, roofs were blown off some houses, mobile homes overturned and some streets were blocked by fallen trees.
Severe storms swept both Kentucky and Tennessee during the day. Leitchfield, a town of 5,300, is located about 70 miles southwest of Louisville.
