KORAZIM, Israel (Reuters) - Pope John Paul will preach Friday to 100,000 pilgrims on the Mount of Beatitudes, traditionally believed to be the hill on which Jesus gave the Sermon on the Mount.

Before that visit to a place said to be where Jesus declared that ``blessed are the peacemakers,'' the Pope Thursday contemplated the horror of war at Yad Vashem, Israel's national memorial to the six million Jews killed in the Nazi Holocaust.

Many of those present, some of them childhood Jewish friends of the Polish-born Pontiff, wept openly at a ceremony held in the shrine's stark, undecorated Hall of Remembrance to the victims of Hitler's Final Solution.
