Deadly Heatwave Hits Croatia...07/31/00

More than 20 people in Croatia have been killed this week by the ongoing heatwave that has blanketed the country. The Vecernji List reported on Thursday that the victims were young as well as elderly.

Dr. Ileana Lucic, a physician at a Zagreb hospital, said that two of the victims had committed suicide. She said, "Heat can have an adverse affect on psychically unstable people. They get nervous and afraid, complain of lack of air and irregular heartbeat. This sometimes leads to suicide."

Meteorologists reported that the temperatures, which have hovered at 99 degrees Fahrenheit, have been worsened by warm winds blowing in from the Alps.

Equation:
Sunspots = Solar Flares = Magnetic Shift = Shifting Ocean and Jet Stream Currents = Extreme Weather
