Water Rations Imposed in 100 Chinese Cities...07/22/00
David Rennie - Beijing

CHINA has imposed water rationing on more than 100 northern cities in response to a severe drought which has dried up many major rivers and thousands of reservoirs.

State media admitted yesterday that the weather was only partially to blame and that most cities in China now suffered from a lack of water, even in normal years. What little water there is in the semi-arid north has been squandered for decades.

Farmers pumped huge amounts of cheap water on to their fields, where most of it evaporated, and cadres struggled to obey calls to plant new areas with crops.

Equation:
Sunspots = Solar Flares = Magnetic Shift = Shifting Ocean and Jet Stream Currents = Extreme Weather
