There appears to be an ongoing series of M-Class flares continuing since February 17th.
I have been receiving reports that solar tracking satellites had been down. This could account for the mis-read on sunspot counts. On another separate message addressed to ECTV, states there is two independent astronomy reports stating the sunspot count went to 218 on February 18th. At this point I have not been able to confirm or deny such report. As soon as something breaks, you will be the first to know.
One only needs to view your local weather source to witness the extreme weather occurring in different parts of the world. From floods in California to avalanches in Europe to mudslides in Central America. If the above story holds true, we can expect severe weather for the next 5 to 7 days. This is analogy is based on current solar activity. If solar flares continue, we could see a string of severe weather patterns, back to back, for weeks to come.
Over the last several months that I have been tracking the Suns solar activity, I cannot remember seeing a series of X-Class, M-Class and CME's in such a succession as this one. We knew it would escalate as this current solar cycle nears its apex, but no one is quite sure how it will manifest.

Although unconfirmed, I sense NASA's Public Relations is taking a different approach. However, I continue to advocate an "independent study" of solar activity which can be measured from Earth.
