Residential
units in nine villages in north of the provincial city of Bojnourd
have been damaged as a result of three earthquakes which hit the
region on Tuesday night, it was announced here on Thursday. Hossein
Behravanfar, head of Bojnourd's Islamic Revolution Housing Foundation,
told IRNA that due to low quality of construction materials used
in regional residential units, the majority of those units have
been partly or entirely damaged as a result of the three earthquakes
which hit the region two nights before.
Three successive
earthquakes measuring 5.4, 4.9 and 3.8 degrees on the Richter
scale hit the area, respectively, late Tuesday. Meanwhile, some
50 aftershocks, all with the intensity of over 2.5 degrees, have
hit the region since Tuesday night.
