IN A STATEMENT the government warned that more flooding might
be seen in the New Territories as authorities in Shenzhen, which lies just north
of Hong Kong, were continuing to discharge water from the bloated Shenzhen
reservoir.
Banks, exchanges and other financial institutions, closed in the morning due
to the severe “black” rainstorm warning issued just before dawn, were expected
to reopen in the afternoon after the warning was downgraded to “red” around
10 a.m.

On Hong Kong islandalone, there were 30 flooding cases, which forced the closure
of some roads in the Central business district.
On Monday, a 53-year-old villager in Sham Tseng in the New Territories was killed
when his house collapsed under the weight of heavy water pouring down from a
slope.
The government on Tuesday also reported 61 landslips since Sunday evening, when
