A 5.3 Earthquake Hits Eastern Idaho...08/20/99
(USGS) The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A moderate earthquake occurred In southwest Montana near the Idaho-Montano border about 20 miles (30 km) north-northwest of Lima, Montana or about 120 miles (200 km) south-southwest of Helena, Montana at 7:50 AM MDT today, Aug 20, 1999 (7:50 AM MDT in Montana). A premleminay magnatide of 5.3 was computed for this earthquake. The magnitude and location may change slightly as additional data are received from other seismograph stations. The earthquake was felt at Butte and Helena, Montana. ALso felt at Salmon, Idaho. There have been no reports of damage.
