Flooding Leaves Hundreds Dead Across Asia...08/06/99

MANILA, Philippines (CNN) -- From China to the Philippines, hundreds are dead and millions are homeless from heavy flooding.

In some parts of China's Hunan province, villages and farms are completely submerged. China's official news agency now says floods have killed at least 725 people this summer, and left more than 5 million in the country homeless.

In South Korea, emergency crews are helping residents recover from the damages brought by Typhoon Olga. The International Red Cross says the western part of the demilitarized zone was hit the hardest.

And in the Philippines, rescuers pulled more bodies from a housing complex in the Manila suburb of Antipolo City that collapsed in a mudslide. A city official said most residents ignored warnings by police to evacuate after cracks began appearing in houses and streets earlier in the day.
