Japanese Earthquake

U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY NATIONAL EARTHQUAKE INFORMATION CENTER
World Data Center for Seismology, Denver

The following is from the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: Preliminary hypocenter for earthquake of 2001 Apr 26, HOKKAIDO, JAPAN REGION, about 70 miles (115 km) ENE of Kushiro, Hokkaido, Japan: latitude 43.2 degrees north, longitude 145.8 degrees east, origin time 17 48 57.5 utc, depth 85 km, magnitude 5.9. The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. There have been no reports of damage.
