A 1,000-Year-Old Mummy Found In South West China

Beijing, April 25, IRNA -- A 1,000 years old female mummy was recently found in a mountain range at an altitude of 5,000 meters in southwest China Tibet autonomous region, Xinhua news agency reported.

According to the archeologists the mummy was one the Buddhist nazarites.

The mummy, which was found by the villagers of the area in a cave sealed by huge stones, was sitting cross-legged with 65 cm height. Her musculatore was air-dried with her both eyes and feet well preserved and her body wrapped in a cotton cloth.

It is a tradition for Buddhist nazarites to hide in secret mountain areas to practice Buddhism. They live on light food and fresh water and when they die, thier bodies are left in the caves were they had stayed.

At present, there are more than 100 Buddhist nazarites on the northern bank of Lhasa River, one of the three centers where nazarites gather.

Two or three nazarites share a cave where they eat a tiny amount of Zamba, and drink fresh water and practice Buddhism.
