PARSONS, Kansas (Reuters) -- Residents of Parsons, Kansas, were sifting through rubble Thursday morning after a tornado raced through the town Wednesday night, sending 20 to the hospital and destroying several structures, according to local television news reports.

The news reports said no one was killed.

Power to several thousand residents was knocked out Wednesday night, and several downed power lines were making navigating debris-strewn streets difficult for emergency workers as dawn lit the scene, the news reports said. There were no further details.

The tornado was part of a series of severe thunderstorms that moved through eastern Kansas on Wednesday night. Parsons is located in the southeastern part of the state.
