Just minutes
after I sent today's first newsletter, I received word of
a 2nd large quake measuring 7.0 magnitude. The major earthquake
occurred near Halmahera, Indonesia about 240 km (150 miles)
northeast of Ternate, Moluccas at 1:23 PM MDT, May 26, 2003
(May 27 at 4:23 AM local time in Indonesia).
I have
a strong feeling this magnitude reading will be raised to
7.1 or larger. I have no scientific data to give reason
as to my 'feeling'. It is just a 'hunch'. At this time there
is no data provided to indicate casualties or damage.
The question
remains, is a third one just around the corner? I will ask
my dear friend Jim Berkland - USGS geologist (retired).
I will post on our breaking news page after receiving his
analysis.
