M-Class Flare Right On Schedule

by Mitch Battros (ECTV)

What makes this solar flare a bit unusual is how it came about. Today's sunspot count is only 51. What makes this somewhat unique, is the fact that almost all the sunspots are in one single region. It is region 365. You may remember in my last newsletter, I mentioned region 365 was coming into position from the far side of the Sun. Well here it is, and it has produced at least one M-Class flare.

Large 7.0 Earthquake Hits Japan
Early this morning Honshu, Japan was hit with a large 7.0 Quake.  Communications were down and reports of rocking buildings as far away as Tokyo about 280 miles to the south. Kyodo news agency said at least 72 people were injured, five of them seriously. The earthquake hit an area that has several large cities and some high-tech factories but is largely agricultural. There were no reports of deaths.

I am still waiting to hear from NOAA regarding Tsunami warnings. At this moment, no reports or warnings have been issued. Was the M-Class flare and this 7.0 earthquake connected? Many in the 'earth sciences' say Yes! Watch for sudden winds to occur within the next 24 hours. Possible tornadoes could occur in the plain states. It is also possible to witness tropical storms develop within the same time frame. Stay tuned to ECTV for continued breaking news events.
