March hosts
4 conjunctions, one opposition, 5 squares, 7 planetary ingresses,
one retrograde station and a new and a full Moon. The emotional
atmosphere in March is changeable and moods are exaggerated. Confusion
and intensity may result in a lack of perspective, and there may
be a tendency to blow issues out of proportion. Patience and responsible
communication is the key to the ability to address core concerns.
By the third week, you can tune in to and partake of a powerful
force that can motivate people to cooperate indirectly, such as
through a network. Investigating available options through experts
is more likely to be successful than would be confrontation. When
needs are filled synergistically, compliance to a greater whole
is possible.
3/2 Venus enters
Aquarius 4:39 AM. Convert feelings of loneliness into an opportunity
to spend quality time with yourself. Concealed plans to create
new enhanced structures may be disrupted. This is a good time
to investigate new unique ideas and values. (The Venus process
this month can be very rewarding if used constructively. See 3/9,
3/12, 3/27, and 3/28)
New Moon 12:06 Pisces, west coast 6:35 PM; east coast 9:35 PM.
Begin new projects with renewed inner strength, and be prepared
to make many adjustments. Much growth and support is possible,
especially in the service fields. To succeed, take a mature attitude
in addressing transformational challenges during the next week.
West coast issues deal with an exchange of ideas regarding operations
or production, and links with organized groups. East coast issues
stem from creative approaches to leadership, and dramatic presentations.
3/4 Mercury conjoins Uranus 29:40 Aquarius, 1:16 PM. Communicate
responsibly during intense confrontations, and be prepared to
act quickly and sensibly to reach for your goals as opportunities
present themselves. Keep an eye open to unusual future possibilities.
Expect others to act precipitously and be ready with alternative
solutions.
Mars enters Capricorn, 1:16 PM. In depth perspectives are good
preparation for taking charge. Careful structuring according to
new discoveries will save time later. Circumstances may bring
opportunities to create more realistic effects. Even though the
tendency is to react immediately, take some time to explore productive
options and keep strong emotions in check. Chance favors the prepared
mind.
Mercury enters Pisces, 6:02 PM. Be vigilant, and take advantage
of unusual opportunities created through thinking outside the
box. Tune into the flowing Spiritual guidance available to all
at this time. Mental processes and procedures that follow customary
patterns will become ineffective and inadequate in the near future.
3/9 Venus opposes Jupiter 9:02 Aquarius/Leo, 8:17 PM. A synthesis
of enduring values and trustworthy principles can be achieved
through building strength and gathering allies. Nurture and translate
those values and principles into a meaningful life through emerging
opportunities as they become available.
3/10 Uranus enters Pisces, 9:30 AM. This begins a process lasting
8 years, although Uranus retrogrades back into Aquarius from September
to the end of the year. A mystical consciousness, and the devotion
to freedom are themes that many will invest time and energy to
develop. At times this will seem like a mutually exclusive goal,
however at the core, they are one and the same. A quickening of
cyclic activity, and a clarity of vision will become increasingly
evident, as people search for meaning in their lives. Willfulness
and non-conformity may become negative watchwords for those whose
consciousness is challenged, as resolve and uniqueness are the
positive counterparts. We can demand more thoughtful applications
of technology, just as we can further the search for scientific
explanations for lifes mysteries. Many traditional foundations
will take on a skewed logic, as people look for new ways to use
this energy.
Sun squares Pluto 19:55 Pisces/Sagittarius, 1:50 PM. A need for
leadership can bring responsible and/or ruthless people into the
limelight. Careful study and examination is needed to discern
the truth. Tension between masculine and feminine energies can
lead to difficulties in relationships, or a merging of energies.
You choose. This begins the process of a dancing T-cross, culminating
in a wide grand cross at the full Moon. (See 3/13, 3/15, 3/17,
and 3/18)
3/12 Venus conjoins Neptune 12:07 Aquarius, 10:34 AM. Spiritual
values begin to merge. A reorganization of root beliefs is possible.
Look within for your own guidance and avoid blindly following
othersdirections if you would be your own person.
3/13 Sun squares Saturn 22:29 Pisces/Gemini, 3:38 AM. Perseverance
and decisiveness can be rewarded by success. Powerful energies
offer transformational opportunities, and healing crises may occur.
A developing consciousness may empathize without becoming emotionally
stuck.
3/15 Mercury squares Pluto 19:56 Pisces/Sagittarius, 11:16 PM.
The power of persuasion is dominant. Restlessness can create errors
in thinking or strategy. Strong statements may bring criticisms
and arguments. Keep open to the power of the process.
3/17 Mercury squares Saturn 22:39 Pisces/Gemini, 9:32 AM. Mental
processes may be slowed down. Take time to refresh and recharge.
3/18 Full Moon 27:25 Virgo/Pisces, west coast 235 AM; east coast
5:35 AM. A union of opposites may be achieved through the synthesis
of ego and nurturance, linked with the appreciation for immutable
laws and irresistible forces. Again, these seemingly incompatible
forces are really different faces of the same power, and must
be resolved within before they can manifest responsibly in the
world. As all actions have repercussions, develop projects carefully,
and accept accountability for their outcomes. West coast issues
deal with defining leadership roles, and are supported by attention
to, or denigrated by getting lost in - details. East coast matters
point to support and respect that are either given freely, or
for a price. If the latter, make sure that both partys needs are
honored.
3/20 Sun enters Aries 4:59 PM. A new process begins, with input
from 3/21, and 3/28. New life is breathed into tired processes.
New hope can be revived if demands are examined for realistic
goals and relevance.
3/21 Mercury enters Aries 414 AM. Lack of a direct decisive connection
between motivation and completion keeps energy flowing, and searching
for an agreed upon goal.
Mercury conjoins Sun 0:56 Aries, 3:32 PM. Much valiant talk and
intense exchange of ideas will take place relative to new perspectives
and hopeful plans for the future, but a clear course of action
must needs wait until months end to be implemented. Opportunities
for future success are opening up now. Mediation is key. Keep
options open, and dont let individual gratification supplant common
benefits.
3/22 Pluto turns Rx 19:57 Sagittarius, 9:13 PM. Just in case you
missed it, there are other opportunities to look at the transformative
processes of the past year - through August of this year. You
may choose to review those experiences with a new focus: an appreciation
of higher knowledge, religion, travel, or pioneering ideas.
3/27 Venus enters Pisces, 10:13 AM. Loving values can lead to
a higher frame of consciousness. Surround yourself with nurturing,
inspirational, and supportive energies: friends, loved-ones, creative
environments, music, art, and spiritual discussions.
3/28 Venus conjoins Uranus 0:55 Pisces, 4:43 AM. The power of
thought put into action may bring mystical forces to the surface.
A focus on healing and fulfillment with the assistance of the
wise-woman Moon phase brings magical meaning to ordinary events.
Mercury squares Mars 15:18 Aries/Capricorn, 6:12 PM. Inner levels
of strength may now find a productive outlet and a dynamic connection
to responsible goals. Take care to use sensible caution, even
where none might be welcome. Emotional upsets can cause setbacks.
MARCH SYMBOLISM
2003
March was named for Mars, the great Roman warrior god, son of
Juno and Jupiter. This was an appropriate association, for in
the ancient world of the Mediterranean, the third month was known
for its violent weather. The inner theme of March deals with developing
wisdom and compassion, and finding ones life path. The search
for self is associated with Mars, as it is a process that precludes
association with others. This process is a lonely path, and requires
great stamina and the development of inner strength.
Marchs gemstone is the bloodstone, also known as the heliotrope,
which means the turning of the Sun.This refers to the equinoctial
passage of the Sun to the Northern Hemisphere. In the Christian
tradition, the bloodstone, deep green jasper with crimson spots,
is symbolic of the blood of Jesus spilled at Golgotha by a Roman
soldiers spear. The stone is said to hold a divine power to stop
hemorrhaging, and was widely used in folk medicine to stop nosebleeds
and cure wasting diseases. The bloodstone was employed in rituals
at the time of eclipses to invoke invisibility, and was used by
Pliny, the Elder as a mirror with which to safely view Solar eclipses.
The stone was used as an amulet by the Gnostics to prolong life,
and in thumb rings (the Mars digit) by the Egyptians, to sustain
courage.
March 1 is the World Day of Prayer, which dates back to the 19th
century Christian women of the United States and Canada in support
of womens involvement in missions. Over the years this idea has
grown and been accepted by many countries and many religions.
Bishop Diadochus, spiritual writer of the 5th century was the
first Christian to teach that repeated prayer led to inner stillness.
The Jesus Prayer, as some call it was a very short prayer acknowledging
God, and offering a petition for mercy. The practice of repeated
prayer is used in many religions with the use of prayer beads
or prayer ropes, and becomes a powerful ritual.
March first is also St. Davids Day, patron of Glastonbury and
Wales, an ascetic monk and bishop of the 6th century, also known
as Aquaticus, because he drank only water, and used water as a
body purifier. The early March Sun is in Pisces, a water sign
associated with spiritual interests.
Losar (March 3) is the Tibetan Buddhist translation for New Year.
It began in Tibet when a wise woman named Belma introduced the
measurement of time based on the Moons phases, and led to the
development of their science of astrology, based on the five elements.
March 4 is Mardi Gras, also known as Shrove Tuesday (shrive: to
confess and gain absolution), and the final day of Carnivalwhich
comes from the Latin root, meaning farewell to meat.
Ash Wednesday, March 5 is the beginning of Lent, the Christian
season of penitence and renewal, which comes from lencten, the
Chaldean word meaning springor lengthening." In medieval
Europe, Lent was a 40-day period of fasting, confession, penitence
and renewal to prepare for the festival of Easter. Good deeds
and disciplinary behavior were offered in thanksgiving for the
sacrifice of Christ, and in acknowledgment of His death and resurrection.
Meat and dairy were to be shunned, and one meal each day was eaten
in the early evening. On Ash Wednesday in the Christian tradition,
a cross is drawn on the forehead with ashes made from the burning
of palm leaves saved from the previous Palm Sunday, as the symbolism
of sorrow, regret, and humility, and a reminder of our humanness.
The palm tree stands for hope in the future (The palm is the tree
of life in the Babylonian Garden of Eden story). The Hebrew word
for the palm tree is Tamar, their name for the goddess, Ashtaroth.
Lent has its parallel in the 40 days of abstinence, thanksgiving,
and petition for healing and mercy that precedes the pagan festival
of Astarte (aka Ashtoreth, Ishtar, Venus). As the goddess of the
evening star of love, desire, and fecundity (different from the
fire-goddess of the morning star of war and battle), Astarte was
a healer, famous for saving and regenerating a palm tree torn
from the Garden of Eden by a great flood. The Venus attending
Easter 2003 is a morning star.
Muharram (Islamic New Year), the first and holiest month of the
Islamic liturgical year starts this year on March 5 with Al-Hijira,
New Years Day. Ashura (March 15th) is a day of fasting dedicated
to the memory of the martyrdom of Imam Husayn, the grandson of
the Prophet Muhammad, who stood up against corruption and tyranny.
Al-Husayn was born in Medina on 3rd Shaban, 4 A.H. (Islamic calendar)
and died in Kerbala on 10th Muharram, 61 A.H. (October 10, 680
A.D. Solar calendar).
The number three is sacred to March. The triangle, being the strongest
of all figures, is used in many religions to signify strength
and to symbolize the unity of the three basic attributes of their
beliefs. The triple-goddess in pagan beliefs and mythology is
used to signify the three stages in the process of life: fertility,
nurturance and wisdom. In Jewish folklore, it symbolizes the closing
of the circle of wisdom. In this story, the Jewish elder, Mordecai
recognized 3 principles of faith from out of the mouths of 3 young
boys: fear not, speak the truth, and God will protect, a connection
to the symbolism of the three sacred monkeys: hear no evil, speak
no evil, and see no evil. Christian symbolism is woven into our
culture in many ways. The Lenten cycle has constant reminders
of the Holy Trinity, such as cloverleaf rolls, and the lowly pretzel
(German for little arms), a tiny three lobed loaf of bread, representing
crossed arms. In the 4th century, one was eaten each day of Lent,
as a symbol of prayer, fasting, and pious works.
St Patrick,
a Celt with Roman citizenship, who converted to Christianity in
fifth century Ireland, used the abundant shamrocks to teach the
lessons of the Trinity. St Patrick, whose death is commemorated
on March 17, utilized an ancient Gaelic invocation called the
Lorica, or The Breastplate. He used it to shape-shift himself
and his monks into deer when they were pursued and persecuted
by King Loegaires troops. The Lorica has been used by many over
the centuries as a magical invocation of Divine energy, and reflects
the presumption of astrology being accepted and used throughout
early centuries:
March 18 - 20. Jewish festival of Purim begins this year on the
day of the full Moon, and culminates on the Vernal Equinox. It
is a joyous time, celebrating Queen Esthers victorious intercession
in an ancient plot to kill Persian Jews. The theme of Purim is
a clever use of the law, aimed at the goal of the triumph of good
over evil.
The Spring Equinox, this year on March 20th, is a day of honor
for Iduna, or Idunn (A Scandinavian goddess), the equivalent of
the Greek Hebe. This goddess is the spring symbol of the triple
goddess, and was charged with supplying youth and strength to
the rest of the gods and goddesses, by providing them with the
ambrosia and nectar of immortality. She is the maiden form of
Hera, whose name means "Our Lady", who was the primary
goddess before the advent of patriarchal gods. This is also the
day that the Hindu goddess, Sri Ushas, (goddess of the Dawn) is
honored. Equinox means "equal night", and is the moment
when the Sun crosses the equator in the juncture between the dark
and light halves of the year, when the days and nights are equal
at the equator - it is the Druid festival of the Apex of Spring.
It is the midpoint between the Solstices (the turning points of
the Suns yearly motion).
The Annunciation, March 25, celebrates the unconcealing of the
mission of the Virgin Mary. In the British Church, that is the
day they also celebrate Lady Day. Lady Day commemorates the philanthropic
works of twelfth century Lady Mabella Tichborne, who overcame
great physical odds just before her death, to make sure that the
poor were annually provided for. Known as the Tichborne Dole, her
wishes are carried out to this day. In the Neopagan tradition,
invocations are also made on March 25th to many of the major goddesses:
e.g., Isis, Venus, Tara, and Persephone, to bring enlightenment
to women regarding their missions in life.
If thou wilt
be observant and vigilant, thou wilt see at every moment the response
to thy action. Be observant if thou wouldst have a pure heart,
for something is born to thee in consequence of every action.
