Part II Bioevent...03/31/00
By Patricia Doyle

On March 14th 4 passangers who entered the last subway car on a northbound INDF train got more then their tokens worth. Four passangers, who were all strangers to each other when boarding the subway at Allen Street in lower Manhattan, saw an empty car at the rear of the train.

They entered the car, as the doors closed, they gasped for breath. There was an obvious stench of vomit, yet, they saw not evidence of vomit in the car. At the very next stop they all vacated the train and went separate ways, never knowing eachother's fate. I only have knowledge of one passanger.  He made his way to work and all during the day sensed that terrible stench of emesis.

By evening he began feeling very ill and developed a sore throat. The pain soon traveled down to his sternum and then he developed severe chest pain. The next morning, he went to work only to go home at noon feeling ill. By 8 pm he had developed a 103+ degree temperature, severe chest pain  and was delerious.

He was taken to a hospital and after hours in the ER, he was diagnosed with a whopping pneumonia. During his ER stay, his blood pressure went down, and not up as expected. I have spoken to two experts on chem/bio weapons and they feel that he might have been exposed to some sort of chemical fumes, such as hydrochloric acid.

I have even read that some bug sprays, which are nerve agents like Malathion, could cause such a reaction and result in pneumonia. At this point in time, the incident is under investigation. I have heard from the Office of Emergency Management and am cooperating with them by giving as much information as possible.

Hopefully, we will be able to find out what sickened this victim. If anyone reading this has had a similiar experience on a New York Subway, or has any information on this event, please contact me.
As they say on TV, "stay tuned!"
