What is matter?
A simple enough question but the study of atomic structure can
be most complicated. The number of particles constantly being
added and the numerous theories as to how they interact can be
quite involved. Our current scientific understanding of matter
is that it is groups of particles (Molecules) which are made up
of smaller groups of particles (Atoms) which are also made up
of even smaller groups of particles (Protons and Neutrons). It
is now believed that these too are made up of even smaller particles.
We are now at the level of the Quark, Antiquark, Lepton and Bonson.
Supposedly, Quarks cannot be resolved into something smaller.
If Quarks do not consist of smaller particles how can they exist?
Impossible yet there it is. We have reached the limits of understanding
matter in terms of particles. The particle barrier. This is another
point where the division between spirit and science begins to
blur.
According
to Albert Einstein's special theory of relativity, matter (as
mass) and energy are equivalent. Accordingly, matter can be converted
into energy and energy into matter. The transformation of matter
into energy, for instance, results during nuclear fission. How
then does energy become a Quark without a structure? Quarks have
mass and occupy space. How do we get mass from energy with nothing
intervening? Particle Physics has taking the Newtonian Universe
to it's very end. We can no longer understand the Universe in
terms of particles when the base particle of our model has no
particle structure. We need another model. Where then do we turn?
Maybe we should return to the ancient theory of ether. Ether was
theorized to be a universal substance that acted as the medium
for transmission of electromagnetic waves. This theory was abandoned
in the 20th century. In this theory Quarks are electromagnetic
vibrations in ether. In this scenario matter is not real because
it is in reality a vibration. Similar in concept to the idea that
you cannot separate a wave from the ocean. The wave exists only
because of the ocean but has no real existence in itself. This
electromagnetic vibration or wave is what we call energy. In the
beginning was the Word (sound or vibration). And The Word was
with God. And the Word was God. How do Quarks exist? By the Word
of God.
